Shiau-Fan is designed to reduce worm artifacts in mid-tone-heavy images by using a different error distribution than Floyd-Steinberg. It keeps the grain balanced and more random-looking, so it is a solid choice for portraits, fur, and images with lots of gradual shading where directional streaks would be distracting. Use it at 254–300 DPI when you notice worms with Floyd-Steinberg on the same image.

Specifically optimized to reduce worm artifacts. Excellent for images with many mid-tones. Works well for portraits and fur textures. Use at 254-300 DPI. Better than Floyd-Steinberg for images prone to directional artifacts.
