How DithX stays free
Official sponsor
Opt Lasers supports DithX as an official sponsor, which makes it possible to keep the free online tool running and available.
What the sponsorship covers
- Hosting and server capacity
- Maintenance and reliability
- Ongoing development and improvements

Free lifetime license
Registration
Complete a free registration to receive a license key. There is no purchase, plan, or donation required to use it.
Why a license exists
Open access was abused by automated traffic and abusive load. The license protects the servers and helps keep DithX reliable and affordable. It is not a paid subscription.
How long it lasts
The license is free and intended for life.
If you see 2050, that is a technical reference date, not an expiry you need to pay to renew.
What you can do with DithX
Dithering
Dithering converts grayscale values into patterns a laser can burn as lighter and darker tones. The method you choose changes detail, contrast, and texture.
Typical jobs
- Photo engraving
- Wood
- Stainless steel
- Metal marking
Typical machines
- Diode
- CO₂
- Fiber
- Galvo and UV
Who it is for
Beginners use it to learn, while shops rely on it for real projects without an extra mandatory software subscription.
What DithX does not decide
Laser, material, lens, focus, power, speed, and resolution still define the final result. DithX only prepares the image for the right machine workflow.
For legal boundaries and conditions, see the current DithX terms.
Your images
No permanent archive
DithX does not store your photos as a permanent gallery or archive.
About 5 minutes
An upload stays on the server only while processing runs. After about 5 minutes, the file and temporary data are removed automatically.
That short window exists for the output itself, not to keep a copy of your work.
